Summer Youth Employment Program

Neil Albert, the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, needs your help to employ 1,000 young adults in the private sector as part of the District’s 2009 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). This career building program is your opportunity to acquire the services of 18-21-year-old District residents at little to no cost. The District of Columbia government pays the minimum wage for all youth employed by the program.

This year, you will be able to post positions on an SYEP job board, and define qualifications or ranking factors youth have to have in order to participate. You can choose to become more involved in the recruitment process, including ranking applicants and conducting interviews. The result should be placements that more accurately reflect the needs and interests of employers and youth employees.

In order to participate in SYEP, potential employers should email Natalie Martirosian at

In the email please:

Express an interest to employ at least one youth participant;
Designate a representative to monitor SYEP activities; and
Designate a representative who will attend an SYEP training session.
