Operations Director Andrew Lee Teaches Team Members New Skill

Last week, Operations Director Andrew Lee and part-time team members Bernard Addison and Peron Williams were hard at work making improvements to the BID office trailer. The men replaced the old carpet with brand new ceramic tile, but first Andrew had to show them what to do.

Starting with a trip to the Home Depot to pickup supplies, Andrew explained to the guys that home and office improvements do not need to be expensive. The cost of the tile, equipment and labor totaled less than $1,000. Next, Andrew showed Peron and Bernard how to cut the tiles to fit smaller spaces along walls and doorways. Peron quickly learned how to cut tiles and became comfortable using the equipment (right).

After cutting a few tiles, Andrew then showed the men how to apply adhesive and lay the tiles along with spacers to make sure the tiles were evenly placed across the floor. Bernard’s favorite part was laying the tiles (left) and was thrilled to learn a new skill. “Andrew should start teaching classes for this,” Bernard said. “He was really good at showing us what to do and patient with us so that we learned it correctly the first time.”
