Capitol Hill BID Members 2009 Presidential Inaugural Security and Transportation Information

All eyes are on Washington as we prepare for the influx of over 2,000,000 visitors expected to come witness the swearing in of our 44th president, Barack Obama. World leader, celebrities, elected officials and visitors from around the world will be in Washington for inauguration festivities commencing on Saturday, January 17, 2009 and ending Wednesday, January 21, 2009. With the safety of the President, community businesses, local residents and visitors being the number priority, the National Secret Service in collaboration with federal, state and local security agencies and public affairs officials, formed a taskforce to develop an overall security plan for the 56th Presidential Inauguration.

We’ve been actively participating in security briefings to ensure that our Capitol Hill BID members will have the most accurate and up-to-date information on road closures, security screenings, parking restrictions and transit options for inaugural activities. Please be advised that information changes often and will not likely be finalized until very close to event time. We will do our best to keep you posted on security plans, road closures and transit schedules that affect the Capitol Hill area and BID members.

Additionally, the BID Ambassadors will be out in force to ensure visitors are welcomed to Capitol Hill in a clean, safe and friendly environment.

The security taskforce,(including the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), the District of Columbia Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, the Virginia State Police, the Maryland Department of Transportation, the United States Secret Service, the Washington D.C.
