The 12th Annual Norwegian Christmas at Union Station

The nation’s capital gets a taste of Norwegian culture and celebration of friendship and peace at the 12th Annual Norwegian Christmas at Union Station on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. Witness a once a year event and celebrate the magic of the holiday season as Norwegian Ambassador Wegger Chr. Strommen flips the switch to light the 32 foot tall Christmas in the main halls of Union Station.

The tree is a gift to the people of Washington, D.C., and is a symbol of friendship between the United States and Norway. It also expresses Norway’s gratitude for assistance received from the United States during and after World War II. Come join in the celebration with DC Mayor Adrian Fenty, community leaders and friends.

The tree lighting ceremony will be preceded by the Toys for Tots Kick-off and Model Train launch on November 25 at 9:00 a.m. in the West Hall of Union Station. The tree will stay lit from November 25 through December 27. Cross a few holiday shopping items off your list at the Norwegian-American Holiday Bazaar on December 5-6, 2008 and get a taste of the culture, food and music from Norway.
