According to SmartBike Program Manager Chris Holben, the District Department of Transportation and Mayor Adrian M. Fenty are aggressively seeking to expand the SmartBike program by 100 more bike stations in DC, 10 of which will find home on Capitol Hill.

The bike sharing vision offers an alternative mode of transportation to DC residents but is only as strong as the number of bikes on the road. With this exponential increase of stations in DC the destination points for a SmartBike participant also increase. Where before, lack of availability to a bike or station, was a leading deterrent for users.

Holben confirmed the stations could be installed as early as this fall or as late as Spring 2010. The Capitol Hill BID will be working with DDOT in its effort to find the best suitable loactions for the SmartBike stations on Capitol Hill.
