Master Plan for BID Plantings in the Works

This month the BID’s Beautification Committee formed a subcommittee dedicated to maximizing the impact of the plantings throughout the BID area and has begun a series of meetings to come up with a “Master Plan” for the tree boxes and 8th Street light pole baskets.

Committee Chairman Mark Holler is leading the effort that will evaluate the current condition of the tree boxes, review successes and challenges of past planting efforts and produce a plan designed to get the most out of the tax dollars allotted in the budget over the next three to five years.

Possibilities include an increased use of hardy periannuals and decreased use of more fragile annuals in an effort to make the boxes more self-sustaining.

The BID maintains nearly 400 tree boxes throughout the commercial district and 22 of Barracks Row’s light pole baskets.
