How are you getting home New Years Eve? Plan Now.

Metrorail to close at 2 a.m. on New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day
Metrorail will operate on a regular weekday schedule with a 2 a.m. closing on New Year’s Eve, Thursday, December 31, and a modified Sunday schedule on New Year’s Day with a 2 a.m. closing on Friday, January 1.

New Year’s Eve, Thursday, December 31
On New Year’s Eve, Metrorail will operate on a weekday schedule, opening at 5 a.m., and staying open two hours late, closing at 2 a.m. All Metrorail trains will operate with six-cars. Metrobus will operate on a weekday schedule and will also operate until 2 a.m. to make sure rail and bus passengers catch their necessary connections. MetroAccess will operate normally.

New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1
On New Year’s Day, Metrorail will open at 7 a.m. and close at 2 a.m. On New Year’s Day, all Metrorail trains will operate with six cars. New Year’s Day ridership is traditionally light. Last year only about 152,000 people rode the Metrorail system. Metrobus will operate on a Sundday schedule. MetroAccess will operate normally.

Circulator Service:

(Washington, D.C.) The DC Circulator will keep rolling right into 2010. The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced today the Circulator will run extended service to accommodate passengers returning home from New Year’s Eve festivities.

Additional night service will be provided on Thursday, December 31 on the Georgetown-Union Station route and the Woodley Park-Adams Morgan-McPherson Square Metro route. Both routes will operate on a weekend schedule that night:

Georgetown – Union Station Route

December 31: Extended Night Service between Whitehaven and 17th and K Streets, NW, from 9pm to 2am

Woodley Park – Adams Morgan – McPherson Square Metro Route

December 31: Extended Service, from 7am to 3:30am

Please note: there will be no bus service on any of the Circulator routes on Friday, December 25 for the Christmas holiday.

On January 1, 2010, the Circulator will operate on its regular Friday schedule.
