Capitol Hill BID Seeking Event Planning Intern

The Capitol Hill BID is seeking a part-time (8-10 hr/week) event planning intern to assist with the planning of the “Magic and Miracles” fundraising event for our non-profit organization Ready, Willing, and Working. Ready, Willing & Working is a non-profit organization that empowers people to break the cycles of homelessness, welfare dependency and incarceration through a residential, paid-work rehabilitation program offering supportive services and the skills for self-sufficiency.

The intern will start in June/July 2014 and will finish by the end of the fall 2014 semester (early-mid December). Magic & Miracles is expected to be held on Thursday evening, December 4, 2014. It is preferred that the intern will be able to attend the event to setup and assist as needed.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

– preparing and distributing event invitations

– updating contact databases

– making follow up phone calls to invite DC Councilmembers, US Congressmembers and Senators to be a part of the Honorary Host Committee

– assisting with coordination of the event’s silent auction

– writing press releases and assist in media outreach

– miscellaneous tasks as directed by BID Staff

Intern will receive SmartTrip refill cards to commute to and from the internship. A small, performance based stipend may be given at the conclusion of the internship.

QUALIFICATION

Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills. Comfortable making phone calls.

Applicants should have an interest in non-profit work, event planning and/or fundraising. Passion for ending homelessness in DC is a plus! Please submit resume and cover letter to the email below.
